SAN NARCISO, Zambales – President Ferdinand Marcos graced the 200th commencement exercises of the Philippine Merchant Marine Academy (PMMA) in this town on Thursday, July 20.

During his speech, Marcos urged the 224 graduates of MAgigiting na may DAngal at SImbolo ng Kawal ng karagatAN (Masadiklan) class 2023 to continue to do everything with the same amount of passion and resilience that they have shown during the time they had in the academy as they take their respective roles.

“Whatever challenges you may face, be open to how you can live up to your class name: Magigiting na may dangal at simbolo ng kawal ng karagatan,” said Marcos..

As you do so, said Marcos, help the Philippines maintain its name as a global figure in the maritime industry and an asset to the entire world.

Marcos also extended his gratitude to the private shipping industry for the support that the PMMA has received.

“You are not only making a difference in the lives of these graduates. You are also elevating our capabilities as a maritime nation,” said Marcos.

Marcos also welcomed the private sector’s support in promoting quality maritime education and training that allow the maritime industry to be more innovative, more resilient, and adaptive to the ever-changing world.

“As your partner in improving the skills and capabilities of our people in the maritime industry, I call on all the concerned agencies to coordinate closely with the PMMA. Facilitate what will make our maritime education even more responsive to the needs of the nation while ensuring that whatever steps we take will be in compliance with laws and regulations,” the President remarked.

The Masadiklan class 2023, which consists of eight female cadets and 216 male cadets, will be joining the Philippine Navy, Philippine Coast Guard, and Merchant Marine fleet. FREEPORT INSIDER
