The recently concluded Century Tuna Ironman  Triathlon saw a thousand athletes compete for the rigorous challenge, as stated in the press release of the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) that was sent to the media.

It’s good business for the Freeport Community since people from around the globe came here to witness the popular sporting event.

But is it good for athletes?

The boardwalk area where the athletes started off is supposed to be a “no-swimming” area, or I may be mistaken if the ban has already been lifted.

Perhaps, SBMA Chairman Tan should look into the water condition of this area, where the old buildings’ sewerage pipes go directly into that body of water.

Did the SBMA Tourism Department inform the organizer of the possible risks the athletes might encounter while swimming there?

The athletes and their supporters, family, and friends sure paid for the Environmental Tourism Admin Fee, or ETAF, collected by the restaurants where they dined or hotels where they stayed.

ETAF fund should be used for TOURISM projects for Subic to be on the Tourism Map again!

I say, moderate your greed!

It’s rainy season again, and expect floods everywhere, especially along riverbanks. Sadly, the flooding can’t be stopped at the moment.

Consider the plight of the residents living near the riverbanks along Barangays New Kalalake and Pag-asa. They now suffer from flooding, even with only a small amount of rain.  It’s mainly because of the blocked portion of the Kalalake River, particularly where the Magsaysay bridge is being constructed.

The water cannot flow freely out to the Kalaklan river, thus, the blocked portion now becomes a catch basin.

Who are the contractors? Who brockered for them? Who paid who and how much? The people are asking: When will the bridge be finished? When will the river be declogged? Perhaps, again, Chairman Tan should do something about this, and do it fast!
