Typhoon “Goring” (Saola) enhanced the southwest monsoon, or habagat, triggering widespread flooding in Olongapo City and Subic Bay Freeport on Tuesday (Aug. 29) afternoon.

The heavy downpour overwhelmed drainage systems in the freeport, causing floodwater to rise rapidly. about 2 p.m.

Also inundated was the 14th Gate Road, which was rendered almost impassable to vehicles.

In Olongapo City, a rockslide hit the road near the Ocean View beach resort, resulting in gridlock, and in Barangay Old Cabalan.

Flooding was also reported in Barangay Barretto following a sudden downpour.

Some commuters were stranded due to the floods, and many of them were seen filling the walkways of SM Dowtown and Mansion Bakery around 5 p.m.

Evangeline Ramos, a purok leader residing at 12th Street in Barangay New Kalalake, said that the water in their neighborhood, which is located near the river, has reached ankle-high after two hours of non-stop rain.

In West Baja Bajac village, Barangay Secretary Elizabeth Tamano sought online help after seeing stranded students and commuters due to a lack of tricycles. FREEPORT INSIDER
