OLONGAPO CITY – At least 45 sacks of garbage composed of plastic bags, straws, cigarette butts, boxes of pizza, used clothes, and slippers were collected during a coastal cleanup drive along Driftwood Beach in Barangay Barretto here on Friday, June 23.

A total of 182 students, faculty, and community volunteers took part in the activity that was organized by Gordon College’s Community Extension Services Unit (GC-CESU) in collaboration with the Office of Student Welfare and Services (OSWS).

Volunteers scoured the beach, collecting debris, and sorting it for proper disposal and recycling.

The move was aimed at educating and raising awareness about the need to maintain clean water resources and surroundings in celebration of World Water Day.

According Dante Sardina,  GC CESU coordinator,  the cleanup drive served as a rallying call for everyone to actively participate in protecting our environment and embracing their roles as responsible citizens.

“The event not only serves as a practical effort to restore the beauty of Driftwood Beach but also fosters a sense of environmental consciousness within the participants,” said Dante.

GC Cesu is committed to ensuring the execution of programs and services intended to empower communities and to increasing social awareness and responsibilities for individuals to become responsible citizens for the improvement of the community. FREEPORT INSIDER
