FREEPORT INSIDER EXCLUSIVE (SIT-DOWN INTERVIEW WITH NEW SBMA HEAD)

Fresh from his appointment as the new Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) chairman and administrator, former Pandan, Antique mayor Jonathan D. Tan granted the Freeport Insider an exclusive interview on June 1 to share how his first four weeks as the agency’s head had been so far.

During the interview with the SBMA’s 9th leader, held at the Chairman’s Office, the Freeport Insider brought up issues raised during the recent town hall meeting and the various projects that Tan has been diligently working on.

Tan, 46, highlighted several key initiatives aimed at transforming SBMA into a modern and sustainable hub. One of the projects he emphasized was the installation of street lights powered by solar energy, ensuring energy efficiency and reducing the environmental impact.

This move aligns with Tan’s vision of creating an eco-friendly and green environment within the SBMA.

Another area of focus for Tan is public transportation. He revealed plans to introduce e-buses to the SBMA, aiming to provide residents and visitors with a convenient and environmentally friendly mode of transportation.

By embracing electric vehicles, the SBMA’s top official seeks to reduce carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner and healthier atmosphere.

In line with the goal of creating a smart city, Tan cited the implementation of a comprehensive closed-circuit television (CCTV) system throughout the SBMA. This move aims to enhance security measures and ensure the safety of residents, employees, and visitors within the area.

The integration of advanced surveillance technology will further reinforce SBMA’s position as a secure and well-managed freeport zone.

Lastly, Tan shared the plan to establish a corporate center within the SBMA. This project aims to attract more businesses and investors, providing them with a centralized location for their operations.

By fostering a vibrant and conducive business environment, Tan intends to promote economic growth and job opportunities within the SBMA.

With projects focused on sustainable infrastructure, eco-friendly transportation, advanced security, and a thriving corporate center, Chairman Tan aims to shape SBMA into a dynamic and forward-thinking destination for residents, businesses, and visitors alike. – JENNY ROSE BITAGO, JASMINE BUNDALIN, RALPH MORANO/ FREEPORT INSIDER
