Eight teachers from a remote Aeta community in Botolan town, Zambales province, were stranded by bad weather on Sunday (July 16) and were rescued by the town’s disaster response team.

The teachers, from Maguisguis Integrated School and Burgos Elementary School were reportedly riding carabao-drawn carts on their way home at around 10 a.m. and were unable to cross the raging river as Tropical Storm “Dodong” spawned heavy rains and strong winds.

According to the Botolan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), one of the teachers was able to call a fellow teacher, who relayed their call for help.

The MDRRMO immediately sent a team to the area to rescue the teachers and send them home safely.

The Botolan Municipal Government has issued a reminder to the public to stay at home during inclement weather for their safety.

The state weather bureau, Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration announced that another low-pressure area (LPA) is forming east of Mindanao. The LPA, to be named “Egay,” has the potential to turn into a storm within 24 to 48 hours. FREEPORT INSIDER
